(Info)
“Death of Context and Birth of The Core: Graphic Design and Branding in the Umami Era” is a printed essay discussing the state of graphic design and branding in the experience economy. When “viral” replaced “timeless”, the idea of a “____core” replaced the idea of “context” as the backbone of informed design choices. Instead of linking itself to an existing context, the most successful design creates an entirely new context for itself. The term “cultural umami” was first coined by Nemesis in “The Umami Theory of Value”, and DOCBOTC frames this concept into the context of graphic design.
