(About)Veera Kortelainen (b. 1995) is a Helsinki based freelance graphic designer. Just recently she interned at WVH, a Munich based graphic design studio with a strong cultural focus. Before that she was at Ellun Kanat, a Helsinki-based strategic branding & communications agency, where she focused on branding and visual identity projects. Currently she splits her independent practice between client commissions and self-initiated projects. Her practice stems from the intersection of graphic design and contemporary culture and she mainly works with visual identities and typographic solutions. Her work is often inspired by the so-called lower forms of visual culture—the vernacular, the amateurish and the “non-designed” and she embraces a certain kind of roughness-around-the-edges in her expression. She holds a BA of Arts from Aalto University, Finland, where she also occasionally teaches.
